DAY 121---WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA

As we sailed in today we experienced very dense fog but it lifted as we approached our pier for docking.  We docked at 10:45 and the face-to-face immigration with officials began in the theater at 11:15.  It is 57 degrees this morning but should warm up to 70 this afternoon.  It is sunny now.

Historical/Background Info:

We were here also on our 2010 world cruise and had a really nice dinner under the stars in the dessert, world cruise special event. Walvis Bay is the major sea port and second largest city in Namibia.  It is the second largest city in Namibia with a population of 62,000.  Its protected, deep-water bay, is a safe haven for sea vessels. The country’s major industries are: 1)-mining & fishing, 2)-agriculture, 3)- tourism. Uranium mines export 12% of the world’s supply. Namibia was a German protectorate until gaining its independence in 1990. Its coastline is a barren stretch of sand dunes and desert extending up to 100 miles inland. But when the desert ends it is rich in agriculture and huge cattle feeding lots. Fishing and fish processing is also a major part of the Walvis Bay economy.

LAST EVENING

                                                                    I missed sun set.
Our friends, Bonnie & Paul Buchanan from Tucson, joined us for dinner.  Unfortunately, Paul had to leave early.
I had to ribeye with baked potato and an onion ring as an entree.  We both started with the crab cake.  Rebecca had the 6 ounce filet.  Last time I will have the ribeye as it was tough.  From now on I will have the filet also as it is always tender.
I had to have the signature popcorn Sundae.
I wanted to see the show but two of the ship's entertainers came and sat right in front of us just before the show started.  Ruined my sight line to see the stage so I left.  Pissed me off.  Entertainers should sit in back!  Rebecca left but later returned to the show.

TODAY

Three of the 4 members of the security team that came on in Cape Town.

People heading towards the blue building as buses on other side of it.
As you can see, no high rise buildings here.

Yesterday I watched a movie on tv called, "Meet the Parents", and today I watched the sequel, "Meet the Fockers".  Both were every funny with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.  Second one added Dustin Hoffman.

At 4pm this huge fuel bunkering vessel tied up below our balcony.  They will be fueling us soon.
Most of the passengers left they ship on tours starting around 11:30 this morning.  This evening at 5:55 the world cruise passengers will leave again for the special world cruise special event, "Moonscapes & Moonlight in Namibia".  It is a 45 minute ride to and from the desert venue.  Then there will be a dinner buffet and some entertainment. We and some other WCers will not be attending it.  500 WCers is just too many for a venue as we learned the hard way at the other WC special event in Singapore.  It's going to be pretty cool out there in the desert.
Instead we will be meeting Paige Kosik and Cameron Vance, two of the production cast singers and dancers, for cocktails and then dinner in Compass Rose.  Cameron is a graduate from TCU in Ft Worth.  We dined with a couple months ago also.
The other dining venues except for Compass Rose and a special churrascaria dinner up on the pool deck since only about 160 of us will be remaining on the ship for dinner.
Music in the lounges and a popcorn movie in the theater is the only entertainment this evening.
Mariner will be sailing again at 11pm and have 3 days at sea before reaching our next port.
